This area aims at supplying a national, regional and provincial level statistical analysis of the Italian labour market through the examination of the irregularity index calculated in terms of the irregular work unit impact on the total number of work units.
Istituto Nazionale di Statistica ISTAT (National Statistical Institution) currently supplies national and regional level estimations on regular and irregular employment. Be it known that the work unit (ula – unità di lavoro/annuo) (work unit/year) is the estimate used to compare the economic aggregates of the national account.
The work units represent a measure of how much work, as a factor, contributes to the country’s productivity, in a specific period, and are calculated by converting the working positions held in full time units, conversion also carried-out for other productive sectors, for each person employed in the reference period.
Assuming, specifically, that each person works the number of hours equal to the ones exercised in that economic activity sector and in that professional full-time position (either employed or self-employed).
Due to the objective difficulty in measuring phenomena which are not directly observable, the provincial level irregularity index estimations show margins of uncertainty. For this reason statistical measures will be shown in intervals.
